Masked Shrike, Cyprus, 2008

In this wooded area at Smygies in the Akamas peninsula of north-west Cyprus a pair of Masked Shrikes were located and photographed on April 17 2008. This lowland terrain comprised scattered deciduous trees and shrubs and many were not yet fully in leaf. The birds were probably looking for a nesting site.

On the following day, some considerable distance to the east, another bird was seen perched on the tip of a pine near to the summit of the Troodos mountains at about 1900 metres altitude. This was a very different habitat.
